Dec. 1: It Happened on Fifth Avenue (1947)
My apologies in my resetting the Christmas movie list and the jumble that resulted. This is the December 1 offering.
Aloysius T. McKeever (Victor Moore) is a man who practices the Christmas spirit--he is just a bit more practical, using someone elses money and resources since he has none of his own. When the "season" is happening in in warmer climes, the wealthy O'Connor's mansion in New York sits vacant, but not for long. As he has for some time, Aloysius comes into the mansion out of the cold weather and be a polite squatter.
This Holiday season there are changes to his routine. The O'Connor enterprises include the ownership and expansion of several New York properties and families are being evicted. Among them, is a veteran, Jim Bullock (Don De Fore) who is well-aware of Michael O'Connor's ambitions -- and opposes them. Jim ends up at the mansion, as does his homeless former army buddies and their families.
Even Trudy (Gale Storm), the runaway daughter of Michael O'Connor, shows up... It Happened on Fifth Avenue
Watch for: Victor Moore and Charlie Ruggles scenes together. The veteran's families settling in. The daughter and mother O'Connor (Ann Harding) conspiring together to soften Michael's hardness. The transformation of the mansion (beautifully decorated) to the home of several needing a sense of home; you wonder if they will ever get it put back together.
Merry Christmas to all in need this Holiday season.
