Thus starts with this innocent comment, one of the cutest and funnest musical/romantic comedies you'd see without Fred & Ginger. It opens with a great swing number by none other than the real stars of this movie, the Glenn Miller Orchestra. For the purposes of this story, called the Gene Morrison Orchestra and they about to start another cross-country tour. Rounding out the real band (shown below) are George Montgomery, Caesar Romero (who steals each scene he's in!), with real Glenn Miller sideman, Tex Beneke, Marion Hutton (sister of Betty) and beautiful singer/antagonist with chip on her shoulder, Lynn Bari.
It's in the following weeks as Connie learns what it means to be hanging with the other orchestra wives and falling for their idle gossip. It's with her natural sense of fair play that the story gets its best conflict. The gals are at their finest and bitchiest! I loved the various personalities and the couples dynamics and I enjoy the musical talents of the band. It is a movie that just puts me in such a good mood, even with the cat fight halfway through. Orchestra Wives (1942) -- It's a charmer.
