I'll Be Seeing You (1944)
Zack's circumstance is also problematic but different. He is furloughed as a break from his treament for extreme battle fatigue (referred to as PTSD nowadays). He has ribbons and metals for his valor in service, but he is a shell of nerves and anxieties at times and not predictable in some of his reactions. That puts him through stress as well.
The movie was a big hit with audiences who identified with how to function and have the hope of a normal Christmas after years of war.
Available on YouTube (the one through Wafford Theater on YouTube is a good transfer) and rentals/sale through Amazon, and other sources. A good choice to return to each Christmas season.
