Trail of Robin Hood (1950)
Why, tangle with those varmint Christmas tree rustlers, that's what!
Jack Holt, former Hollywood star, is now a Christmas tree nurseryman: "Every family who wants a tree can have one. . . I ain't looking to make a profit." But it's his high volume marketing offering low prices the infuriates other Christmas tree vendors. There are some varmints in the area who are in the big corporate business of Christmas trees and they are stealing Holt's stock to remove him from competition. And Christmas is coming. .
- Roy likes to ride fast; it seems he's always chasing bad guys on trusty Trigger. This equine form of tag is a precursor to the car chases of the next decades.
- How often in these movies our hero Roy is part of the Federal Government! In this tale, he is an agent with the US Soil Conservation Service.
It is a formula horse-opera, but moves along with the secondary story of things back at the ranch with Splinters McGonigle and lil' Sis acting as junior observers of the action. Roy solves things without having to draw his shiny silver six-shooters but he does kick-ass! Not bad at all for a federal bureaucrat.

Well, to fill out the evening, may I suggest a cartoon.
