He said simply, "Just start writing." This was years before the Nike campaign of Just Do It.
On this site alone, there are currently ten unfinished drafts for posting. I have more ideas on hand, but ten in the hopper is enough project writing for me to keep track. I keep trying to figure out a way not to end up spending all day at the desk, widening my keister in my comfy manager's chair. I need to get my walk in now as it is. Writing is half on the page and half your experience living. Keep that in balance and you will be fine. You will always have something to write.
But what if you are faced with writer's block? Maybe it's fear of the blank screen? If you cannot get started, maybe you are editing before you even write. Edit after; it is a decent idea, or you wouldn't have thought about it. Don't turn down something if somebody else enjoys reading it.
Another consideration to know is your own desire to express yourself. Writer's block maybe a malady of someone who doesn't enjoy telling the story in the first place. They may have this illusion of being a writer, yet never practice it. Hum... I see many people who imagine they want the trappings of being an author, but the actual work of writing something? Maybe not as much. That first major piece you do may take years, so please enjoy the process. Just start writing.
